Basic concepts are not clear:
There are many reasons why students struggle with maths; one of the main reasons being the lack of basic concepts. This is one of the main reasons why many students think they are horrible at maths and do not even attempt at learning through it. Once they have made their mind up about how they feel about maths; its hard to turn them around as they start to believe they lack skill towards maths. This is why its important to get through the basic learning of maths as it will ultimately build up students knowledge as well as give them the constructive understanding they need.
Every student learns differently; this is why many students struggle to learn in the class room; as the teacher only teaches one way and that way may not be the best way for many students. One of the most common ways students like to learn is when they can touch and physically interact with the material in some way. For example, the older you get, the more difficult maths becomes and the less physical it gets to interact with, as the higher you go; the harder maths gets as its abstract maths.
Difficulty following multi step process:
Maths is mainly a multi step process, meaning it requires a lot of calculation problem solving; this can be achieved by using different formulas to gain the right answer. This can be a difficult situation for most students as you are required to remember the formulas to help you get the right answer; which many students struggle with as they get confused or forget a rule in the formula; which they were meant to apply. This can be a significant issue as forgetting one rule to apply can give you a whole different number to the right one; which of course leads to being the wrong answer. This is one of the main reasons why students struggle with maths and get demoralized towards maths.
